What does a fire extinguisher service consist of:

Our engineers will carry out a basic service in accordance with BS 5306-3. This will consist of…
Checks for partial or total discharge. Its vital to weigh the extinguisher to check its not empty or been partially used. You cannot rely on the pressure gauge alone. If an extinguisher has lost more than 10% of its weight it will need to be refilled or replaced.
Replacement of necessary consumable parts. i.e. the O rings that provide a seal to the valve and hose. These are prone to deterioration leading to pressure loss over time.
Checks to security tags and head cap safety pins.
Complete a maintenance label which shows the dated service history of the extinguisher.
Client maintenance report in accordance with BS5306.
A visual inspection looking for any signs of damage or defects.
Service carried out by a BAFE certified engineer.

Extended Service

Extended servicing should be carried out every 5 years for foam, water, powder and wet chemical extinguishers.

As with the basic service, this should ideally be carried out by qualified certified engineer in accordance with current regulations.

Our extended service covers an in-depth look at all aspects of the extinguisher and any consumable parts are replaced as necessary. We then carry out a discharge test, focusing on pattern, distance, and duration to ensure it meets required standards.

The extinguisher valves are checked and replaced if necessary. The valve lining is inspected to ensure its intact and corrosion free. We replace the head cap O ring and reseat the head cap assembly whilst checking for any loss of pressure. Finally we refill and repressurise the extinguisher whilst checking for any leaks.

The regulations for CO2 extinguishers are slightly different due to higher pressure.

They will require extended servicing every 10 years.
